  1. THANKFULNESS “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High” (Psalm 92:1).

  2. “Of all human feelings, gratitude has the shortest memory.” • I Thess. 5:18; Eph. 5:20 • There are Psalms of wrath, sorrow, joy, etc. • And Psalms of thanksgiving. • Complete, unwavering, unshakable confidence in God is the church’s greatest need today. • God works – We thank Him – the expression of thanks provokes confidence. • V. 1 – Good for whom? Us!

  3. Thankfulness is the best antidote to the evils of life. • Job 5:7-8 • We sometimes envy others the ease of their existence. • But no back is without its burden. • No life is without its blessings. • Some see the burdens more, some the blessings. • We need strength, and a better attitude.

  4. Each night we need to add up our blessings and compare with burdens. • Health, family, friends, food, shelter, spiritual items. • “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord.”

  5. Thankfulness quickens spiritual perception. • From the blessings of God we move to the thoughts of God. • A selfish person accepts a gift as his “due”, and does not see the giver. • A grateful person sees beyond the gift to the magnanimity of the giver. • (teach your children gratitude and they will love you; let them be selfish and you’ll never be able to do enough for them).

  6. If our thankfulness is weak we will think poorly of God. • But remember, you can be thankful for a gift, but not to it. • We need to “see” the God who loves us, and blesses us.

  7. Thankfulness enlarges our spiritual capacity. • It opens our heart to God. “How could He think this much of ME??” • I Timothy 3:13 – it’s strange how physical work can bring us closer to God spiritually. • So receiving physical blessings helps us understand a Spiritual Being, and prepares us for the next step in our journey to heaven.

  8. Thankfulness increases confidence and love. • Psalm 92:15b • Psalm 118:6; Heb. 13:6 • A heart full of gratitude has no room for fear – I John 4:18 • Praise is to a Christian as music is to marchers in a parade. Psalm 100 • Put away ingratitude and complaints. “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord.”
