  1. Behavorism By: Lauren D.

  2. Behavorism • Human behavior where self-observation has no effect on teaching methods • Thought of during the modernism time period • Time period based on science • Both humans and animals learn the same way

  3. Ivan Pavlov • Nobel Prize winner in 1904 for behavioral experiments • Taught dogs to salivate when hearing a bell • Classic conditioning: natural reflex that occurs in response to a stimulus

  4. B.F. Skinner • Operant conditioning: learning is controlled and shapes behavior • Did experiments with pigeons and rewarded good behavior • Taught pigeons how to bowl and dance

  5. Albert Bandura • Thought that people mimicked behaviors observed by other people • Oberservational modeling • Focused on how people retained information using imagery • Analyzed how people thought they learned, thought, and motivated themselves best

  6. Teacher Practices • Teachers reward students for good behavior • Probably seen more often in younger grades

  7. Student Practices • Students act in a certain way to be rewarded • Can also be rewarded for grades or other good accomplishments

  8. My Thoughts • I personally think this strategy does work. I am majoring in elementary education and I believe that especially at a younger age students seem to respond well to rewards. When I was working as a daycare teacher, my students knew that if they did not behave they did not get their special afternoon snack on Friday which helped their behavior most of the time.
