  3. Language of the discipline • Immigration – To go to a country to settle • Migration- to move from one place to another

  4. Details – Mexican Texans • 23,000 tejanos • Tejanos lived near San Antonio • Some Tejanos owned successful businesses and owned land • Others worked as sheep herders, cowhand ,and ranch laborers

  5. German Texans • 43,000 immigrants were attracted to Texas • Germans took up a large percentage of these 43,ooo • Some Germans came seeking political and religious freedom • Others came in search of economic oppurtunities

  6. Native Americans • President Lamar forced most natives out of east Texas during the years of the republic years • However some natives lived in the western part of the state • Some roamed freely within the borders • Native Texans were forced out of the state

  7. French Texans • Henri Castro founded a colony named Castroville along the Medina river • Settlers who came from the German speaking French province Alsace • Were often mistaken for Germans • Frederick law Olmsted a travel book writer described the village

  8. Trends • The similarity of the immigrants is most came from Europe • a difference is some came by boat and others by wagon • Similarity is they ALL came to Texas • A difference is most immigrants came fro freedom and others looked for economical opportunities
