  1. OpenG at NI Week 2003 As presented by Jim Kring March 4, 2003

  2. Creating Reasons for Going • Make NI Week a LabVIEW Event • Networking and Education • LabVIEW Developers (Users) • OpenG Developers • National Instruments • Have fun! OpenG User Group Meeting

  3. OpenG Developer Conference (OGDC) • An undercurrent at NI Week 2003 consisting of a multi-day series of events • Keynote • Developer and User Workshops/Presentations • Booth – OpenG Install Fest • T-Shirts • Social Event – BBQ OpenG User Group Meeting

  4. OGDC - Keynote Getting developers, users, and NI excited about OpenG. There probably won’t be any laser-light show at the OpenG Keynote, but perhaps some PowerPoint animations. This keynote will outline the history and direction of OpenG, give an overview of the various projects, and outline the OpenG activities at NI Week 2003. OpenG User Group Meeting

  5. OGDC - OpenG Workshops • Developer Workshops • Developing Packages with the OpenG Packaging Tools • Developing LabVIEW Environment Applications • Using SourceForge project hosting services • Source Code and Version Control with CVS • Managing a team of developers • User Workshops • LabXML • Open Source Test Executive • OpenG Package Manager • OpenG Toolkit OpenG User Group Meeting

  6. OGDC – Meeting with NI • OpenG and NI – needs and relationship • Here we will present and discuss, with NI’s development team, the needs of OpenG developers as they differ from the general LabVIEW population. OpenG User Group Meeting

  7. OGDC – Meeting with NI • How can OpenG better serve the needs of NI? • How can we better interface with NI? • How can we gain access to tools and information? • How can we participate in the beta program? • How can Alliance members participate in OpenG? How does this affect their relationship with NI? OpenG User Group Meeting

  8. OGDC – Meeting with NI • What do OpenG developers need from NI? - We should present and discuss LabVIEW Features needed by OpenG Developers. We need to talk specifically about why these are Important and what we will be able to do with them. For example • Better palettes • Better edit-time tools/services integration • Better documentation OpenG User Group Meeting

  9. Discussion – Booth? • Do we want a booth? • Can it help us accomplish? • Centralized Meeting Place • A place to get the schedule of OGDC events • A place to chat • A place to buy OpenG T-shirts • Do we want to try to share a booth with LAVA? • This is kind of what happened last year. There is a huge overlap of individuals in both groups and it increases the likelihood that there will be someone “tending” booth. OpenG User Group Meeting

  10. Discussion – T-Shirts • Do we want t-shirts? “Got Diagrams?” was last years t-shirt. There were also some other good ideas last year (“Evolution in Action”?). • T-shirts would be nice, because it will allow people to identify others as part of the OpenG undercurrent at NI Week. OpenG User Group Meeting

  11. Discussion – Social Event (BBQ) I was thinking that an outing to County Line BBQ would be a lot of fun. It is all-you-can-eat BBQ, Texas style. Several of the OpenG/LAVA folks went last year and it was a very enjoyable event. They have rooms for large parties that we could reserve. I am sure that we could easily get about 30 people at the event. OpenG User Group Meeting

  12. Poll: Are you planning on attending NI week? • [PlaceWare Multiple Choice Poll. Use PlaceWare > Edit Slide Properties... to edit.] • Yes • No • Maybe • Only if there's an OpenG Developer Conference

  13. Recap • OGDC – An OpenG undercurrent at NI Week 2003 • Keynote • Developer and User Workshops • Meeting with NI Developers • Booth • T-Shirts • Social Event (BBQ) OpenG User Group Meeting
