  2. Spanish Core Requirements • ASPN 205/206 (NOT both) • ASPN 223 • ASPN 301 • ASPN 312 • ASPN 316 • Additional ASPN course at the 200+ level

Concentrations for the Spanish Major • Language Concentration • Literature Concentration • Secondary Education/Teaching Concentration* *DOES NOT AWARD TEACHING CERTIFICATION Students declare their concentrations on MyUAlbany and need to do so when they decide so their audit will accurately show completed and outstanding requirements

  4. Language Concentration • One (1) literature course above 316 • ASPN 401 (Phonetics) OR ASPN 402 (Syntax) • Two (2) 400-level language/linguistic courses • Two (2) additional ASPN 300+ level courses (may include *LIN 220) *LIN 220 counts toward the Spanish major ONLY within the language concentration

  5. Literature Concentration • One (1) literature course at the 300+ level • Two (2) literature courses at the 400 level • Two (2) language/linguistic courses above 301Z • One civilization course

  6. Secondary Education/Teaching Concentration* • ASPN 401 (Phonetics) • ASPN 403 (Spanish for Teachers) • One (1) literature course at 300+ level • One (1) literature course at 400 level • One (1) civilization course • One additional ASPN course as advised *DOES NOT AWARD TEACHER CERTIFICATION

  7. 400 Level Literature Courses Any 400 (ASPN 410-ASPN 490*) level course taught by: • Sabadell-Nieto • Kressner • Diaz • Torres-Horwitt *ASPN 444 is a topics course and the topic must be literature in nature to count toward the literature/education concentration

  8. 400 Level Language Courses Any 400 (ASPN 400-ASPN 410, ASPN 444*) taught by: • Westmoreland • Sayahi • Lansing *ASPN 444 is a topics course and the topic must be language/linguistic in nature to count toward the language concentration

  9. ASPN 444 444 is a topics course, there may be several sections of this course number offered in a particular semester. Students need to check the course title and instructor to determine where the course will count. Students MAY take 444 multiple times for credit as long as they are not repeating a topic.

  10. Regularity of ASPN Course Offerings • 205: at least one section offered each semester • 206, 223, 301: several sections offered each semester • 302, 312, 316, 317, 403: every other semester • 401: at least every third semester
