Types of Events • RETN professional development • Ex: Classroom Management workshop • Connect2Texas local content providers • Ex: Virtual Field Trip to the Amon Carter • District-initiated requests • Ex: Baseball Hall of Fame • TETN professional development • On as-requested basis • Don’t see it…ask! • Coordinated by ESC Consultant • Ex: Special Ed Updates

  6. Types of TETNs • Mode A • Broadcasts to the TETN Rooms around the state • Coordinated by TETN • Mode B • Mode A events that are also connect through regional networks (like RETN) • Events are named Mode B when a district sees a TETN event they want to connect to.

Types of TETNs Continued • Mode E • Secondary to main TETN schedule • Broadcast through RETN system • Requires another set of VC equipment • Good for small conferences with a predetermined set of participants • A few ESCs connecting • Two districts connecting across the state • Dual Credit Courses

  11. Scheduling at Your End • Schedule facilitator • Schedule equipment/Distance Learning Room • Coordinate all local activities

  12. Scheduling with RETN • Receive call about an event • Check your equipment/DL Room schedule • Add the site to the RETN Web site to receive the event • The day before, you’ll get an email • Attendance • Roster • Materials, if any

  13. On the day of the event… • Dial in at least 15 minutes early. • If a site cancels, let us know asap. • Troubleshoot as necessary • Facilitator should always be in room. • Record event as requested • Starbak • Show participants how to use microphones, change/move cameras.

  14. VC Etiquette • Communicating acceptable etiquette • Always assume people can hear you and see you! • Muting • Much of the time • Mute mic immediately after speaking • Be aware of open mics! • Voice-activated system • Eye-contact with camera • Delay

Additional Responsibilities of the Site Manager • Troubleshooting equipment/software • Training participants as facilitators, if needed • Providing RETN personnel with requested information • Room changes • Site Manager changes • Distributing RETN schedule • Serves as reminder to receiving sites

  16. Additional Responsibilities of the Site Manager • Assisting the event sponsor/host in scheduling events • Configuring the distance learning room • Providing technical support to local staff • Notifying RETN staff of technical problems

  17. Topics to Consider Facilitation • Everyone signs the roster • Not on roster? Fill out Attendance Sheet • Fax back to Nelline • Materials are important • Put your participants on camera. • may affect the credit that they receive for attending.

  18. Topics to Consider Signing Up • On RETN Web site, or contact me if last minute. • Have someone there to answer roll call. • Other districts may also attend. • Registration is still on ESC Web site • Adding sites to RETN Web site does not automatically mean registration in event
