  3. Education Formal education and training requirements for a surgeon —4 years of undergraduate school, 4 years of medical school, and 3 to 8 years of internship and residency, depending on the specialty selected.

  4. Attire Scrubs worn in surgery are almost always colored solid light green, light blue or a light green-blue shade, although some medical centers have switched to pink as a theft deterrent.

  5. Hours Many physicians and surgeons work long, irregular hours.

  6. Kind of person? A strong desire to become a surgeon. Perseverance. The ability to work under pressure.
