  2. Codes • Technical (camera techniques & shots) • Symbolic (ie clothing, colours) • Written and audio (music etc) • Codes give the text meaning and determine the response of the viewer.

  3. Technical Codes • Technical codes are all the ways in which equipment is used to tell the story in a media text, for example the camera work in a film. • ECU – Extreme Close Up • CU – Close Up • MS - Medium Shot • LS - Long Shot • HOLLYWOOD CONTINUITY EDITING – SHOT REVERSE SHOT

  7. Lighting • The technical code of lighting is used in some way in all film genres. It is a convention of the horror genre that side and back lighting is used to create mystery and suspense – an integral part of any horror movie.
