  1. We, as Scientists, need to be safe in our Science Labs. • There are a few guidelines that will allow us to be able to do experiments safely!

  2. Before you begin… • Listen carefully to the teachers instructions. • Carefully read any information given to you. • Ask questions if you don’t understand something.

  3. Keep your table and the classroom floor picked up. Clean up any spills when they happen. Keep your work area clean.This means….

  4. You will be using some new science tools and equipment in class • Wait to use them until after you have beentaught how. • Please handle them carefully.

  5. You may be using microscopes,

  6. as well as beakers and test tubes.

  7. Use the equipment in a dryarea Use with dry hands When using electrical equipment…

  8. Pull back long hair when working with materials…

  9. If there are any accidents… • Tell your teacher right away! • Do not touch broken glass!

  10. We will be working with chemicals in this class. • Nevertaste or smell a chemical unless your teacher says it’s ok. X X X X

  11. In addition….. No eating in class! X X

  12. When your teacher says it’s ok to smell…. • Hold the container with the chemical about 2 inches away from your face. • Use your hand (not the one holding the chemical!) to wave the fumes toward your nose. • This is called wafting!

  13. Rinse your eyes with water immediately! Rinse for at least 15 minutes. And of course…tell your teacher. If you get any chemicals in your eye…

  14. When you are done with the chemicals, dispose of them the way your teacher asks you to. • Please use chemicals carefully!

  15. Be kind to them… They are alive! You may be working with plants and animals

  16. At the end of class… • Put materials away when you are finished with them. • Clean up your area.
