  3. 3-5 Science Question of the Week (2 related questions) 7D What are fossils and what do they tell us about the environment where they were found? What types of rocks are fossils primarily found in?

  4. Fossils are either the remains or imprints of the harder (skeletal) structures of plants and animals. Fossils are mostly marine and mostly found in sedimentary rock strata. We can date, tell about the environment that they lived in, and tell what animals they ate by their teeth.

  5. Scientists have found fossils of whales and other marine animals in mountain sediments in the Andes and dry riverbeds, now deserts, have marine fossils such as the Mojave Desert.

  6. Why are marine fossils in the desert?
