  1. Constitution Day WebQuest

  2. Introduction • Uncle Sam has invented time machine. To learn why we celebrate Constitution Day you will be going back in history to find out more about our nation’s beginnings. Click the Time Machine Button when you are ready to go! When the Time Machine is ready, click on 1778 to travel back in time. Complete the activities and click the back button to return. Then click on Task to continue this WebQuest.

  3. Take a Trip Through Time! • Click the clock to the right to travel back in time.

  4. Welcome Back! • Did you have a pleasant trip? When you traveled back through time you learned a little about the Revolutionary War, such as the clothes they wore and equipment the soldiers might need. • Did you notice the soldiers had trouble buying a pie? That is because they were in a different state and had different money than the farmer.

  5. The Plan • Our founding fathers had to create a plan that would unite the states. That way everyone could use the same money in all the states and know that the laws were the same throughout the country. This was a huge responsibility. Complete the following tasks to gain a better understanding of how and why our Constitution was written.

  6. Task 1- Learn the Preamble to the Constitution • Sing along with the Preamble Song from Schoolhouse Rock. • Read about the Constitution with Benjamin Franklin. • Unscramble the Preamble Scramble.

  7. The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States. We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

  8. Task 2: Patriotic Songs • Read lyrics and/or listen to some patriotic songs. • America • America, the Beautiful • The Star-Spangled Banner

  9. Task 3: Write a paragraph • After reading the lyrics to the three patriotic songs, in your own words, write a paragraph that tells what it means to be patriotic. • How do these songs make you feel? • Why do you think we stand when the National Anthem is played?

  10. Conclusion • Congratulations! You have completed the Constitution Day WebQuest. • Now you know the Preamble to the Constitution. • You have learned why the Constitution was written. • You have learned how it united the states into one nation.
