What is a Medical Doctor? • A medical doctor is a doctor that works in a general practice which is why sometimes they are referred to as GPs • A medical doctor is a doctor who sees patients based on a appointment and prescribes them medication concerning there illness to take to their local chemist. • Also a medical Doctor can give a person advice on there physical illnesses and refer them to a different type of medicated doctor.

  3. The Stresses Of a GP • A medical doctors life is a very stressful one as it consists of long hours with hardly any breaks and a lot of moving around • Medical doctors have to be very determined to complete there training to become a general practitioner as it takes a back aching seven years to complete. • The first five years are based in a medical school in a university and concentrates on the academic side of medicine. 4. Medical Schools/Universities • From my research I found out the top three universities with the best medical schools was kings college, Imperial and University College of London. • These three are the best universities due to the amount of people that graduated and went on to work in hospitals and other medical practices • Also they have the best ways of students paying there university fees making them very efficient.

  5. What is Learnt In Five Years! • When you attend a medical school in a university you have to spend five years learning the academic side of medicine • In the first two years this is called the foundation years as you are learning the basics so you can begin to grasp the more difficult stuff. In the first two years you learn about the biology terms of medicine and how the body functions and are examined on what they have learnt. • During the next two years you study illnesses and the chemical side of medicine and are similarly examined after these two years. Finally the last year you study everything you know and have your final exam to determine if you graduate and achieve your medical degree.

  6. What’s After Your Medical Degree • Once you achieve your medical degree from the university you were studying in, it’s up to you to find a general practice to start your junior training in. • When you have started your junior training in a practice you begin to learn how the life of general practitioner is by learning how they treat patients fill out reports and economise with there hours with their family life • After these two years you can then begin working in the practice as a gp and your salary dramatically increase from 32-36 a year to 45-52 a year for your average salary.

  7. The Types Of Practices • There are three different types of general practices a person can go into the first one is single handed practice when you work by yourself although you can hire nurses or fellow collegaues • However, some people prefer to work in rural practices which are based in a small villages and have to travel long distances to patients however they get to view beautiful sceneries and little traffic. • The most popular practice is inner city practice which is just how it’s sounds it’s a general practice based in a city which offers a lot of patients and more money.

  8. Different Types Of GPs • There are many different types of general practitioners the most common one is a medical doctor which is GP that works in a hospital or local clinic • Another type of GP is a prison doctor who takes of injured prisoners which is a common case in that type of environment and takes a lot of commitment and work as hardly any breaks or time to yourself is had. • There are also Media Doctors which act as journalists for hospitals by writing articles about them and appearing on televisions shows and appearances which aren’t usually for the faint hearted
