My life was always full of challenges, and I promised that one day I would see change coming positively. So what is the price for a vet house visit when I heard about rumors about hope lying just beyond the border, I made a pact with myself to do it no matter how it costs. Crossing the border was the bravest act I did in my life. It was unbelievable that I made it, though I cannot recall the details of how I did it. All I can remember was how I kept rewinding my past struggles to gain confidence and overcome my fears. Then suddenly, a new environment was welcoming me on the horizon. I felt free to draw the life that was just a dream in the past. Then the reality of being an illegal immigrant bit me right in the face. Opposite to what I was expecting, I can hardly find a decent job and earn the respect of others. Discrimination was inevitable, and I couldn't blame them. Despite my situation, I was making money better than in my country. So I promised to do whatever I can to be of help for others and never to return. One day, I saw an abandoned dog at the side of the road. He got wounds, and it was apparent that he needed urgent help. Right away, I called Holistic House call concierge veterinarian in Los Angeles, and they responded. I have no idea how they treat street dogs here yet, so I told them it was my pet that went into a fight. After treatment, they found the dog got microchipped and traced the owner. A few days later, the owner of the dog came to see me and thank me for what I did. Someone stole his dog and abused it. He was giving me cash as payment, but I refused to accept. When he learned about my status, he promised to help me get my papers. I asked him why he was helping me that far, and his answer was, “because my country needed more good Samaritans.”
