  2. I work as a GP in Morvern (pop ~ 350)– an isolated peninsula, west of Fort William • Life has been transformed with the opening of the new Medical Centre in 2004– previously we worked in an extension to my house • I am very fortunate in being helped in the practice by Dr Richard Houston who works part-time Dr Susan Taylor, Dr Richard Houston and Jess MacIntyre at the opening of new Morvern Medical Centre November 2004. Plaque was hand embroidered by Jess MacInyre – oldest resident aged 91. New Morvern Medical Centre The Old Surgery

  3. We have a small team of reception staff working part-time with widely varying tasks – reception duties, dispensing, fish feeding, computer maintenance, coffee making, mail sorting ……the list is endless.

  4. We are almost 1 hr from the nearest ambulance so have to provide immediate care to our patients, so resuscitation training is essential. We also provide a minor injuries service. We have our own audiometer for hearing assessments and have an excellent chest lead device making ECGs fast and easy

  5. The work is widely varying, from fish farmers, to stock brokers, from postmen to sand miners; every day is different. • Transportation comes in many forms and ferries are part of daily life • Diving is a popular sport and can provide casualties

  6. Relaxation is as important as work and there is usually time for a walk or cycle most days • Ski-ing is available at Anoch Mhor – just over an hour’s drive away • Bodyboarding is very refreshing • Boats can be fun for doctors too

  7. I have lived and worked in this community for 12 years , and even with the midges, have never regretted my decision to come here .I recommend remote and rural general practice as a great way to work, live and play
