Waste • Society is increasingly concerned with the negative environmental impacts of business and production. • In order to remain competitive businesses need to address these issues and attempt to reduce their carbon footprint.
Waste reduction • E-mail has reduced the amount of paper used in businesses. • Which in turn has reduced the amount of energy used to cut down trees and manufacture paper. • This has had a positive impact in reducing the extent of global warming.
Customers • Most customers are concerned with green issues and want businesses to change their production processes to become more environmentally friendly.
Pressure groups • There are many pressure groups who have campaigned to change the way businesses operate. • This has been successful, • When companies buy new equipment they must dispose of equipment properly, through recycling rather than sending to a landfill.
Task • List as many pressure groups as you can find, using the internet. • State exactly what each group is concerned about and how they go about keeping the public informed of what is happening.
Recycling • Recycling resources has become the norm in most industries. • Recycling can be integrated into most processes in business and can even be a profitable venture for a business, as other businesses will often pay for old resources.
