Consequences of Sin • Sin will take you farther than you want to go. 2 Samuel 11:2–3 (NKJV) 2 Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. 3 So David sent and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

Consequences of Sin • Sin will take you farther than you want to go. • Sin will keep you longer than you want to stay. 2 Samuel 11:4 (NKJV) 4 Then David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her, for she was cleansed from her impurity; and she returned to her house. 2 Samuel 11:27 (NKJV) 27 …the thing that David had done displeased the Lord.

Consequences of Sin • Sin will take you farther than you want to go. • Sin will keep you longer than you want to stay. • Sin will cost you more than you want to pay. • David: • Adversity in his own house (12:11) • His wives would be taken from him and be given to his neighbor who would lie with them as he had done to Uriah (12:11) • It would become a public scandal (12:12) • The child he and Bathsheba were going to have together would die (12:14)!

  5. Consequences of Sin • Sin will take you farther than you want to go. • Sin will keep you longer than you want to stay. • Sin will cost you more than you want to pay. Genesis 3:5–6 (NKJV) 5 …God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
