  2. Outline of presentation • Finnish fisheries today • Development of fish prices • Effecting factors

  3. Effecting factors on fish prices, FGFRI results: • Imported farmed Norwegian salmon, domestic farmed rainbow trout and wild Baltic salmon are close substitutes. As well, whitefish, perch and pike-perch are substitutes. • The price of imported salmon determines the price of wild salmon and farmed rainbow trout. • Prices of wild caught species are affected by farmed rainbow trout • The markets of Baltic salmon, pikeperch, whitefish and perch are partially integrated in Sweden and Finland

The additional affecting factors in the prices of wild caught species • The organisational structure of fishermen and fish market • - No producer organisations, • - long distances – no auction system, often only one buyer • Dependence on fur industry (pelagic species) • Importance of recreational fishery – willingness to pay • During last few years: demand >> supply => increase of • prices
