  2. Skateboarding What do you see in nearly every commercial now? What is the new popular thing that is used to help sales people advertise? Next time your watching television and a sketchers commercial comes on you will see a skateboarder showing off their shoes. Skateboarding has gotten popular See skateboarding has become so popular they use them to appeal to other kids who skateboard.

  3. History of Skateboarding • 1950’s Surfers found out that a board with wheels on land could recreate the actual feeling of riding a wave. • 1959 The first actual roller derby board was for sale. • 1963 The first ever Skateboarding contest. • In 1965 a group of safety experts deemed skateboarding unsafe so skateboarding had died as fast as it had grown. • 1973 A new wheel was created revolutionizing skateboarding forever.

  4. History Continued… • Backyard pools suddenly became a spot to skate and soon after the inverted ollie was created. • Throughout the 70’s skateboarding had started to get big again after it had its first stars Tony Alva, Jay Adams, and Stacy Peralta. • 80’s Skateboarders started to build their own wooden ramps in back yards and streets. • The ollie was responsible for about 80% of all flat ground tricks and about 60% of vert tricks.

  7. As you can see Skateboarding has become one of the new hottest sports. Four times more kids skateboard than play football. Skateboarding is a huge sport now and deserves to be acknowledged. Though Skateboarding is now officially a big sport why is it still treated unfairly by society?

  8. Skateboarding Punished? Why? For the longest time skaters have been trying to earn their way into society but people just wont let them. Whether it be a sign put up or a security guard kicking you out, skateboarders have been getting mistreated for years.

  9. Fun Facts Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen I feel are the two people who are most responsible for skateboarding. They did not create it but Tony Hawk created so many vert tricks and Rodney Mullen created everything that is street skating today. Two tricks they are famous for are Tony Hawk the 900 which is 2 and a half turns and Rodney Mullen the Magic Flip which is now known as the kickflip.
