  1. What Are The Uses & Benefits Of KutusKutusKalilaKalilaSoap

  2. KutusKutusKalilaKalila soap is recognized as the “World’s First Soap Made of Oat Flour” which has several benefits to its users. It has a natural soothing effect on sensitive skin, making it the perfect soap for those dealing with eczema. Made with ingredients including oatmeal, olive oil, safflower seed oil, and lavender essential oil, it also helps reduce dandruff and lice infestations. And that's not all! It can be used for dry skincare due to its moisturizing properties as well as healing sores or wounds on hands or feet. KutusKutus can also be used for smudging or ashes in ceremonies, and the sweet taste is a big plus for people who love to eat it. • KalilaKalila soap comes from Ethiopia. In Ethiopia, environmentally friendly soap-making is a basic necessity not only among the populace but also among the ruling class, who have been using it since time immemorial. The word "kutu" in Amharic means "to mix" and refers to a chemical process where a mixture of different raw materials is created by blending or kneading into a ball of foam which then dries into an extremely hard bar that greatly fascinates Ethiopians.

  3. Oat flakes or flour (called "grana" in Ethiopia) are first milled into a meal called "kutu" and then mixed with olive oil to make "kutuskutus". Just as the name indicates, this is a mixture of grana and oil which can be easily separated by hand or professional mills. As the raw materials are blended in one container, they separate in another container, like when ingredients are pre-blended for use in baking cakes. The resulting blend of pure oatmeal (the meal) with olive oil is very easy to prepare with little effort. It is a common sight to see Ethiopian women making soap from "kutuskutus". • In Ethiopia, the soap-making process is a very important part of health care. In 1969, the World Health Organization started to distribute this soap at a subsidized rate. It was believed that the soap would encourage women to use improved methods of childrearing and reduce infant mortality rates in Ethiopia at the time. With the help of this cheap soap, food intake per capita increased from 35 kg in 1967 to over 50 kg by 1972. The greatest burden on Ethiopia's resources occurs during a drought when foods consumed are primarily beans which require a large amount of water for cooking. These and other factors help make soap-making a necessity for the survival of Ethiopians.

  4. The method of making "kutuskutus" is simple and easy to learn. Blend two parts oatmeal (grana) and one part olive oil (or any other vegetable oil) until it reaches the consistency of a dough. Knead until all ingredients are blended; then form into balls, allow to dry in the sun, and you will have soap! • Many Ethiopian households use soap-making as a source of income: they sell them at markets or door-to-door, and many people buy it after discovering its skin-healing properties. Before the soap can be sold, however, it must be packaged. This is where "kutuskutus" becomes unique. An Ethiopian can package soap into bars or cakes with a rolling pin made out of wood or plastic. A popular method for packaging this type of soap is known as "marimari". Rather than using a rolling pin to apply the oatmeal mixture to the bar/cake, Ethiopians prefer to use their hands to press it against an already-dried cake so that the mixture adheres on one side. The finished product is then cut with scissors and dried in the sun before being sold.

  5. The KutusKutusKalilaKalila story goes back to the Omorate family of Addis Ababa. GirmachewOmorate, an architect by profession, was working on a building complex in Addis Ababa when he saw the work that was being done by local laborers. As he learned about their soap-making process, Girmachew became curious about it and wanted to develop its packaging method with different colors and shapes. The result of this curiosity is KK KalilaKalila soap, the first soap to be made out of oatmeal flour. That was in 2008 (1392). Since then, many people have benefited from its skin-healing properties. Uses & Benefits Of KutusKutusKalilaKalilaSoap • 1.  It helps reduce dandruff and lice infestations. • 2.  It helps heal sores or wounds on hands or feet. • 3. Can also be used for smudging or ashes in ceremonies, and the sweet taste is a big plus for people who love to eat it.

  6. 4. KutusKutus can be used as a facial soap as well as foot soap, which is believed to soften the skin of those who use it. • 5. It can be used as a base for other face and body soaps, and it also makes a good (temperature) shampoo bar. • 6. It is very absorbent and can be used as hand laundry soap; it can also be used as a healing balm to cover cuts and wounds on the fingers or toes, or as a dusting powder for children's ears, etc. • 7. Baking (cooking) such as roasting Yelsa (Sweetgrass seeds), made from KutusKutus can banish any evil spirits because of the sweet smell it brings along. • 8. It can be used in the making of hot oil or mustard for any ailments that may be present. It can also be used in the making of other soaps. • 9. Being made with oatmeal flour, it can be simply substituted in recipes to make different soaps. • 10. It is best used within 3 months of manufacturing, as its shelf life is short at best.

  7. 11. If you want to get rid of bad odor from your hands, wash them with KutusKutus soap 4-5 times a day. • 12. It's very cheap and easy to buy, but many people prefer to find out about it through word-of-mouth instead. Conclusion- • In Ethiopia, soap making is an ancient art that has been passed down from generation to generation. It is a process that involves mixing two raw materials to create a product that not only beautifies the skin but also provides visible positive effects on its users. In Ethiopian households, it plays a very important role in various facets of life and has great potential for commercial purposes as well. The greatest challenge facing the product today is the lack of commercialization and its widespread availability—particularly in Western countries. Therefore, it is safe to say that KutusKutusKalilaKalila soap depends entirely on the patience and dedication of Ethiopian women who make this product as a hobby or as a means of providing an income for themselves or their families.
