Distinguished Squash Player, Non-Profit work
Kush Mahan is a 2010 graduate of Bates College, in Lewiston, Maine. While at Bates, he majored in psychology, pursuing numerous internships/experimental projects in order to expand his knowledge within the field. These experiences include an internship at the Seattle Children’s Hospital Center, which involved exploring new treatment methods for young people with hydrocephalus, and working in Alzheimer Reseach Laboratory at the University of Chicago. Additionally, Kush Mahan conducted studies on mindful meditation training at Genesis Psychiatric Residential Home in Lewiston, Maine. Kush Mahan was a distinguished squash player during his time at Bates College. He was a gifted squash player from a young age, playing for the Zimbabwean Junior National Team and earning the title of highest-ranked player in the country in several age groups as a child. Similarly, he participated on the South African Junior National Team. Moving to the United States and entering Bates only helped Kush Mahan to further his squash career. He was a member of the school’s squash team throughout all four years of his college career, and was named the Most Valuable Player for the 2009-2010 season. He was simultaneously named the Bates College Male Athlete of the Year. Kush Mahan also gained recognition from the College Squash Association, which featured his win over the number-one ranked competitor from Trinity College as the sport’s biggest story of the year. The New England Small College Athletic Conference honored him with the title of Player of the Year, and awarded him All-Academic Honors. Having graduated Bates College, Kush Mahan ins till continuing his squash career as a member of the Kenyan National Training Program. His goal is to compete in the Commonwealth Games and the World Team Championships and play for the USA when squash is (hopefully!) added to the Olympic Games.
