Objectives & Schedule Overview • Objective: • Determine a reasonable schedule that will allow a continuous, fluid design period while meeting critical design and review dates. • Schedule Overview – Key Dates: • Preliminary Design reviews - Sept. 27 – Oct. 25 Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Structures, Performance, and Planning • Component Testing - Oct. 16 – Oct. 28 • Critical Design Review - Oct. 30 Design finalized & Construction begins • Flight Readiness Review - Nov. 15 Construction nearly completed (95%) • Official First Flight - Nov. 20 • Project Summary Presentation - Nov. 29 • Thiokol Final Design Report - Dec. 6 Phoenix Aerospace AAE 451 – Fall 2001

Aerodynamics Schedule • Critical Dates: • Sept. 23: Preliminary drag estimate & possible airfoils chosen • Sept. 29: Airfoils selected, wing & tail geometry chosen, general configuration & 3-view completed • Oct. 2: Aerodynamics PDR #1 • Oct. 11: Revisions of PDR #1 material complete • Oct. 16: Trimability and controlability considerations complete • Oct. 18: Aerodynamics PDR #2 • Oct. 21: Stability considerations complete, trimability and controlability revisions complete • Oct. 23: Flight Performance, Stability, and Control PDR • Oct. 28: Aerodynamic design & revision complete • Key Tasks: • Airfoil selection & XFOIL analysis • Geometry selection • Stability & Control considerations • CMARC analysis of tandem wing interaction Phoenix Aerospace AAE 451 – Fall 2001
