Challenges

  • Grid Computing status

    • Test-bed is stable only for a closed proximity (in side one organization)

    • Inter-organization grid is not reliable enough

      • High network down time

      • Low bandwidth, Lack multicast feature

      • Compete with non-critical application like gaming, music download

  • Critical / demanding application can only run reliably on local grid

  • Inter-organization grid can only be used for testing and minor / light weight application

  • Unable to explore

    • Real-time collaboration

      • E-learning, e-meeting, collaborative design

      • Digital media delivery, distributed database, data mining

    • Compute intensive

      • Make flexible, extensible, scalable grid into reality for massive computing application like drug discovery, graphics rendering

  • Uninet and ThaiRen will be key infrastructure that drive new Thailand National grid project
