  16. It’s Time For a Change From “teaching as telling” to “teaching for understanding.”

  17. Today’s Mission Thoroughly examine and improve one lesson for CONTENT Fits in with standards Is significant for the student’s growth as a learner Is significant for their necessary knowledge base Is age and stage appropriate Is rigorous and leads to higher order thinking Is memorable and applicable beyond the day of instruction

  18. Today’s Mission Thoroughly examine and improve one lesson for PROCESS Has clearly stated learning targets (students know what they’ll be learning and be expected to know) Designed to engage learners Designed to manage behaviors and student actions/interactions Provides for assessment/evaluation by both teacher and learner Provides differentiation for multiple modalities of learning—visual, aural, kinesthetic and for different skill levels

  19. Today’s Mission View the lesson through an observer’s eyes What would they see the teacher doing? What would they see the students doing? What would a student tell them about their learning?

  20. How To Proceed Discuss every element of the 55 minutes, from the moment the students arrive to the moment they leave. How do you greet them, seat them? What do you say? Questions you ask—how students are expected to respond (orally, written, raising their hands, discuss with their neighbor, etc.) what would be the strongest and best way to get the most out of the lesson and into the kids creating curiosity, memory, solid knowledge, vital connections, enhanced skills etc. Analyze how the technology you use supports rigor or merely appeases the kids desire to use it

  21.
