  5. Some Basic Tips • Write Simple Sentences – Sentences should average less than 15 words. • We use VHDL to program embedded systems. • Keep Subject, Verb, and Object close together. • Atmel microcontrollers are used in our embedded systems.

  6. Some Basic Tips • Use the Active not the Passive Format. • Our company supplies software systems to Hospitals. • Software systems are supplied to Hospitals by our company.

  7. Some Basic Tips • Simplify Verb Tenses • We use Atmel Microcontrollers. • We used to use Atmel Microcontrollers. • We will use Atmel Microcontrollers • He goes • He went • He will go

  8. Some Basic Tips • Sentences and Paragraphs Cover only one main point or idea in a paragraph. Each sentence should establish or support ONE topic of the paragraph.

  9. Some Basic Tips – Paragraph Example • IP reuse is a multi-billion dollar segment of the Integrated Circuit design industry. With its ever growing use in SoC designs, IP quality, integration, and reuse has become an important issue in any successful design. Choosing the wrong piece of IP can increase time to market, or even result in a failed design. The use of such standards as the VSIA Quality IP metric can help in quantifying IP and by doing so, risks can be greatly reduced. By taking a chip through an entire design cycle, and utilizing third party IP within the design, IP quality and reuse can be commented on. It can be shown that with the use of the VSIA Quality IP metric, IP can be successfully quantified, and the design cycle can be shortened with reduced risk. As a result, third party IP can be used with a higher degree of confidence in any design.

  10. Articles – a, an, the • English has two types of articles: • Definite Article – the • Indefinite Article – a, an
