  1. Film notes • Type: 1950s Romeo & Juliet +coming of age story • Characters: • Baby (Jennifer Grey)shy, rich, good girl; brink of womanhood • Johnny (Patrick Swayze) dance instructor; street kid; thug with a heart of gold • Scene Context: • they’ve fallen in love; Johnny’s been wrongly accused of theft and fired; this is their reunion/coming out party

  2. Dirty Dancing (1987): Final Scene

  3. Scene notes(that apply to MY scene) • Cinematography and visual style: close shots on dancers and 1st person views of partner (intimacy; world falls away), soft lighting (romantic); end lift is key • Production design, costumes: pale pink dress (BABY), Johnny in black; music parallels couple’s feelings • Narrative: very little; they speak through actions (dancing); this is the finale, so there is the sense they’ve come full circle and changed together. • Acting, dialogue, and movement: dancing shows the relationship and is a comparison (Baby before and now) • Genre (romance, romantic comedy, suspense-thriller, tragedy, comedy, action, etc):dance/romance • Connections: love changing people, inspiring them/setting them free to be themselves
