  1. Difference Between Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel There are a wide range of sorts of steel ,the two most normal being are stainless steel and carbon steel. While the two sorts may appear to be identical there are some key subtleties recognizing one from the other. Since two things are made of steel doesn't generally mean they feature a comparative sort of steel. Stainless Steel Stainless steel is a group of iron based alloys, that contain a minimum of approximately 11% chromium a composition that prevents the iron from rusting as well as providing heat resistance properties . Different types of stainless steel include the elements carbon ,nitrogen ,aluminium ,silicon ,sulfur, copper, nickel, selenium ,niobium and molybdenum.

  2. Stainless steel is designed to protect against oxidization. It features a minimum chromium content of 10.5% by mass. This is important because chromium, unlike iron, isn’t susceptible to oxidation. Chromium can be exposed to oxygen without developing corrosion or rust, making it an invaluable element in the creation of stainless steel. Stainless steel features a protective layer of chromium that creates a fence between environmental oxygen and the metal’s iron content which protects it from corrosion or rusting. The most common types of stainless steel are Austenitic stainless steel. Ferritic stainless steel. Duplex stainless steel. Martensitic stainless steel. Precipitation hardening stainless steel. 1. Stainless steel has a high chromium content which acts as a protective layer against corrosion or rust. 2. Stainless steel is more appealing to the eye and can be used for decorative products. 3. Stainless steel are generally more expensive compare to carbon steels. This is due mostly to the addition of a variety of alloying elements in stainless steel, including manganese, nickel, chromium and others. Carbon steel Carbon steel is an iron carbon compound, which contains up to 2.1 wt % carbon. For carbon prepares, there is no base indicated substance of other alloying components, anyway they regularly contain manganese.The maximum manganese , copper and silicon content should be less than 1.65wt. So, what benefits does carbon steel offer? . The use of a high carbon content changes the characteristics of steel. More specifically, it becomes stronger and harder. This is why many knives ,swords and other bladed weapons are produced with high- carbon steel. In feudal Japan, swordsmiths pioneered a special type of high- carbon steel, tamahagane for use in weapons like the katana. Carbon steel can be arranged into three classes as indicated by its carbon content  Low carbon steel (Mild carbon steel)  Medium carbon steel  High carbon steel

  3. 1. Low - Carbon steel is the most widely used form of carbon steel. These steels usually have a carbon content of less than 0.25 wt.%. They cannot be solidified by heat treatment (to form martensite) so this is generally accomplished by cool work. Carbon prepares are normally moderately delicate and have low quality. They do, however, have high ductility, making them excellent for machining, welding and low cost. 2. Medium - Carbon steel has a carbon content of 0.25 – 0.60 wt.% and a manganese content of 0.60 – 1.65 wt.%. The mechanical properties of this steel are improved by means of warmth treatment including autenitising followed by extinguishing and hardening, giving them a martensitic microstructure. Heat treatment can only be performed on very thin sections, however, additional alloying elements, such as nickel, molybdenum and chromium can be added to improve the steels ability to be heat treated and, thus, hardened. 3. High - carbon steel has a carbon content of 0.60– 1.25 wt.% and a manganese content of 0.30 – 0.90 wt.%. It has the most elevated hardness and durability of the carbon prepares and the least malleability. High-carbon prepares are very wear-safe because of the way that they are quite often solidified and tempered. Carbon steel is high in carbon that when exposed to moisture can rust and corrode quickly. Carbon Steel is more grounded and more strong then stainless steel. Carbon steels are less expensive compared to stainless less.
