  3. DESCRIPTIVE PATTERNPattern can be used to describe or suggest a shape or form through the use of line, marks and blocks of colour.These detail, tone, feathers and form of the birds belowhave been created using repeat ‘Zentangle’ stylepatterns. To use LINE and PATTERN to describe Form

  4. To use LINE and PATTERN to describe Form Descriptive Pattern Choose an image of a bird. Select and record patterns from the ‘Zentangle’ sheet that you feel best describe the feathers of your chosen bird. Can you make up your own? Write down why you think these patterns best describe the features of your bird. Draw out the outline of your chosen bird. Use the line drawing to help you. Look carefully at the marks, lines and tone on your chosen bird and use your selected patterns to describe those details. Use a fine liner pen to create the marks, patterns and tones.

  5. To use LINE and PATTERN to describe Form Descriptive Patterns Now build up detail and pattern on your collage bird using fine liner pen to record the feathers. Remember: 1.To look carefully at where the detail is on your bird and select appropriate patterns. 2.Think about what direction you may need to apply the pattern to describe the shape and form of the bird. 3.Make sure you mix the thickness and concentration of the lines to achieve a range of tones to show the form of the bird.
