  1. REDATAM+SP WebServer as a tool for dissemination of microdata IPUMS- GLOBAL Workshop Lisbon, Portugal, August 2007 Alejandra Silva CELADE- Population Division of ECLAC, UN. (1957 – 2007)

  2. Process Modules Create REDATAM+SP FAMILY EIM & EIF Demographic modules GINI module WebServer xPlan CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  3. REDATAM WebServer • Processing census data on line (via intranet or internet) has several advantages: • Complete control of access (variables, geographical level, number of cases in cells) by NSO • Intranet: speed of data processing depends on the server and not of the PC of the user • If there are changes in the data file, only the file on the server has to be replaced • Allows to create a databank from different sources • No access to microdata (copying is not possible) • Control of users CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  4. Internet access to Brasil 1991 Population census CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  5. Internet access to Chile 2002 Population census www.ine.cl CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  6. CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  7. On-line access to census micro data processing and tabulation using the Redatam WebServer CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  8. Countries with on-line census micro data access Access to data can be available through each National Statistical Office (NSO) Site CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  9. Census processing on-line of Trinidad & Tobago CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  10. Each tabulation can be displayed as table, graph or map CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  11. The INTRANET Data Bank CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  12. APPLICATIONS WITH AGGREGATED DATA using Redatam+SP Xplan and the Redatam+SP WebServer CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  13. Redatam xPlan Applications • Special applications can be developed by data owners to disseminatetheir data (for example on CDs) using microdata or aggregated data. • Easy and friendly interface; without programming. • Options of tabulations and processes are defined by the user • Allows to process predefined indicators. Allow for graphing and thematic mapping. • Several applications have been undertaken with Census data, vital statistics, industrial census, agricultural census, trade statistics. CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  14. National example: Panama National Social Indicators System - SID

  15. Metadata, docs and Help files can be included in each Application Example from the Regional ICPD Follow- up Indicators System in Latin America and the Caribbean (www.eclac.cl/celade/indicadores) CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  16. INJUMAP II Indicators System for monitoring Youth living conditions in Chile On-Line through the Web processing or CD stand alone version R+xPlan Target Population Applications CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  17. INJUMAP II Output tables can be displayed in maps or graphs CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  18. On-Line Statistical Processing Indicators System for International Summits Follow -up SUMMITS CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC

  19. International Conference on Population and Development. El Cairo, 1994 Relationship variation among youth between 1990 and 2000 by country

  20. THE MILENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS

  21. Indicators System for The Millennium Goals Follow -up Development goals

  22. Final comments New Applications are constantly being developed to facilitate processing and analysis stand alone or on-line processing thru the web. Further development of the software is mainly based on the feedback of users Further a new multiplatform version is currently under development (an Alfa version was presented late 2005 to national counterparts) Applications developed by one country can be used afterwards by others (promoting national cooperation) CELADE – Population Division, ECLAC
