  3. Shadingtechniqueswithpencil • Creating A Shading Guide For this exercise you will need: A sheet of paper (DIN A-4) Your 2B pencil A ruler • 1.) In a light outline using your pencil and ruler, draw a 20cm x 2cm rectangle. • 2.) Mark off every 2cm along the 20×2 rectangle. • 3.) Draw a line from each 2cm mark to create 10 separate blocks. • 4.) Number each block 1-10 starting from the left. • 5.) Block one will be left untouched (white), as this is the lightest part. So, fill in the block twoa shade darker than the first. This will be the lightest shade you can do with a pencil.  • 6.) Repeat the process for the remaining blocks, making each block a shade darker than the previous block by using pencil techniques and increasing the pressure slightly. • 7.) By the time you reach block ten, the shading should be very dark, almost black or completely black.

  5. Shadingtechniques For this 2nd exercise you will need: A sheet of paper (DIN A-4) Your 2B (or HB)pencil Felt-tips, magazines, gouache painting, etc. • 1.) You have to mix drawings with lines and pencil shaded drawings. • 2.) You have to make a composition repeating one model as a pattern (in the example below it is a duck). • 3.) Use colours for making different tones (by a collage cutting from magazines, with gouache, etc). • 4.) The topic is free, but if you do not have any idea I suggest to make compositions related to jungle, dessert, marine world (specially seabed).
