  2. What is the LITP? An extensive, province-wide interpretertraining program, based on rigorous provincial standards, curriculum and testing.

  3. Language Interpreter Training Certificate • 180-hour Certificate program (six 30-hour credit courses) • CILISAT/ILSAT Required prior to registration for the third course in the program. • Courses are offered through Continuing Education

  4. Admission Requirements • Fluency in both oral and written English and another language is required • College English (EAC150) or Advanced Standing for this subject Candidates must have

  5. Language Interpreter Training Program Courses • Introduction to Spoken Language Interpreting • Consecutive Interpreting and Note-Taking • Skills Development- Sight Translation • Skills Development- Simultaneous Interpreting • Setting Specific Interpreting • Capstone Course- Skills Integration

  6. Language Interpreter Training Certificate Upon completion of the LITP, interpreters will: • receive a Language Interpreter Training Certificate from their registering college • have completed and passed a provincial language and interpreter skills assessment exam (CILISAT/ILSAT)

Career Opportunities for College Trained Interpreters Interpreters become self-employed contractors who offer their services “on-call/ as needed” through interpreter agencies funded by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration End users include: • police officers • doctors, nurses • hospital and healthcare workers • lawyers • social welfare officers • women's shelter counselors • child protection workers • sexual assault center staff • public health educators • many others…

Career Opportunities for College Trained Interpreters • MCI Approved Interpretation Agencies and Organizations • Court Interpretation - MAG • ATIO Court and Conference Interpretation • Private Commercial Interpretation • Over the Phone Interpretation Providers • Interpretation for Tourism Industry

Skills Enhancement Training • Interpreters working in the field may apply for Advanced Standing in the Program • Exemptions may be allowed from one or more of the courses in the program • Individuals must demonstrate prior learning through a challenge process • Individual experience is examined on a case-by-case basis
