  1. Test Coordinator Training • Spring 2014 End-of-Course Exams (EoCs)

  2. EoCs—Purpose To align course curricula (content, skills, rigor) statewide. For HS students to meet graduation requirements For optional use in the Educator Effectiveness System (EES)

  3. PED-Developed EoCs

  4. PED-Developed EoCs • Elementary, Middle, and High School • Paper-Based Assessments (PBA) • Student Performance Assessments (SPA) • Core and elective subjects • Developed by groups of NM Educators

  5. PED-Developed EoCs • Blueprints available on PED website • http://ped.state.nm.us/AssessmentAccountability/AssessmentEvaluation/EOC/index.html • Include assessed standards, specification tables, admin. guides (for SPAs) • Essential for teachers!

  6. PED-Developed EoCs • Is the PED EoC appropriate for my class? • Check framework. • Assessed standards should align with curriculum.

  7. District-Developed EoCs • When to create? • If no EoC exists for a course • If PED EoC does not align with curriculum* • *Must be significantly different

  8. EoCs for Use in Educator Effectiveness EoCs must be used in the preferential order listed below: PED-Developed District-Developed/PED-Approved District-Developed Common Assessments (2013‒2014) Teacher-Developed (2013‒2014)

  9. District-Developed/PED-Approved Use if no PED-Developed EoC for the course Made available statewide once approved, or PED may use items to create new forms. Quality Criteria on PED Website

  10. District-Developed EoCs Required with Submission: Test Blueprint (item type by standard and DOK level) Alignment Analysis Answer Keys/Rubrics Quality Review panel results Bias Review panel results Translations (if necessary) Reliability Analysis plan Release of Assessment

  11. EoC Testing Protocol EoCs are downloadable from SOAP. Maintain test security! Do not maintain local digital copies. Retain paper copies in locked, secure storage.

  12. EoCs for ELLs PED provides Spanish versions of all ADC EoCs including ELA III: Reading and ELA III: Writing. There is the option to translate into other native languages on the district level. The first three continuous years a student attends public school in the U.S., the student may take an EoC in his or her native language. For the following two continuous years, the student may test in his or her native language if he or she still qualifies for ELL status and has submitted a waiver. (Same policy as SBA.)

  13. Spanish EoCs Students may test in Spanish IF: They are current ELL status in their first 3 years in U.S. schools. They are current ELL status in their 4th or 5th year in U.S. schools and have filled out the EoC ELL Waiver. They are taking the course in Spanish.

  14. EoC Testing Windows 2014 Seniors: Additional Testing Window: April 7 – 18, 2014

  15. If EoCs are in the District/Charter Educator Effectiveness Plan: • Group A: 15% EoCs for Other Measures of Student Achievement • Group B: 35‒50% EoCs for Student Achievement Measures

  16. If EoCs are in the District/Charter Educator Effectiveness Plan: • Teacher with multiple preps? • ONE EoC • More data = better results

  17. Growth Model “Student Achievement Measures” based on growth model. PED uses data of past student achievement to produce “projected score.” Achievement compares “projected score” to actual student score.

  18. Growth Model If actual student scores are higher than projected student scores, teacher receives a high rating for Student Achievement Measures. Model produces high correlation between predicted and actual scores.

  19. EoCs Correlation between predicted and actual EoC at the student level = .86 At the teacher level = .94
