  1. Crystal Ball Objective to draw an imaginary portrait using DISTORTION to create the illusion of looking through a convex lens.

  3. Think of what an image looks like through glass with water in it ?

  4. Distorted images

  5. Try this • Imagine you are looking at the head and shoulders of a fortune teller that you see through crystal ball. • The reflection of the face will take on the rounded shape of the ball. • The part of the fortune teller you see through the ball will be distorted. The part you see outside will look clear and normal.

  6. How to • 1) place page horizontally or vertically. • 2) For the crystal ball use most of the paper. Draw a large circle. • 3) above the ball put most of the fortune teller’s head • 4)Use curved lines inside the ball to make things appear distorted. • 5) exaggerate the shapes of features such as eyes. 6)Make the background the rest of the person. 7) Colour in the things seen through the ball. Then cover lightly over them with blue or white so they appear fuzzy.

  7. Evaluate • Have you distorted the image seen through the crystal ball? • Have you added details to give the fortune teller character and provided an interesting background?
