Travel Overview • Who’s eligible? • 10U: 2002 / 2003 birth date • 3rd graders are eligible • 12U: 2000 / 2001 birth date • 14U: 1998 / 1999 birth date • 16U: 1996 / 1997 birth date • 10 / 12U - Must live / go to School in STMA • 14U / 16U – Open for players outside STMA to play in STMA • And vice versa

Travel Overview • Play outside STMA • Suburban League – Anoka, Elk River, Blaine, Zimmerman, • CMFL League – Big Lake, Buffalo, Monticello, Becker • Tuesday games • Starting week of May 7 • Doubleheaders • Thursday practices • 6 – 7:15 or 7:15 – 8:30 • Start in late April (indoor as needed) • Season: • Practices / home games usually at same field • 10 weeks (20 games) • 2 in-season tourneys (Big Lake: May 18, Anoka: June 1) • State Qualifier (Sub: June 28, CMFL: July 13) • State (Sub: July 13, CMFL: July 26)

  5. Travel Overview • Game differences • All players bat • Players rotate to field • 9 players on defense • Pitching is critical • Walks! • Max of 5 runs per inning • Speed of play • Pitching: up to 40 mph • Stealing is allowed • Bunting • Offense / defense

  6. Travel Overview • Team formation • 40 – 60 players expected • Optimal roster size: 11 • Too few: 10, too many: 13 • 10U Teams (typical) • 1 Sub A team • 1 Sub B team • 2-3 CMFL teams • Pitching • Different tryouts, important for numbers!

Tryout Prep • Free hitting! • 2/22 and 3/1 from 6 to 9pm, Middle School East • Players must provide parent to feed machine • 10U: pitching machine speed: 36 • All dials at 5 • 12U: 44 • All dials one click less than 6 • 14U: 51 • All dials one click more than 6 • 16U: 54 • All dials on 7 • Open Gyms (6- 7:30, 7:30 – 9), Middle School East • Monday March 4thTuesday March 5thMonday March 11thThursday March 14th • March 11 and March 14: dry run of tryout drills

  9. Tryouts • Logistics • Players arrive 30 minutes prior to tryout start • Assigned a number • Pay $20 tryout fee • Try on uniforms / record sizes • Request uniform number(s) • Opportunity to buy extras • Recommend extra socks ($5) • Warm up • Try out (3 gyms at Middle School East) • 1.5 hours

  11. Teams • Teams posted on site 3-4 days after tryouts • Coaches need to: • Do on-line concussion training (30 minutes) • Attend coaching clinic • Receive uniforms • Get equipment • Practice drills, etc. • Sign up for fields / practices • Register for tourneys • Practice starts in mid-April

Costs • Direct fees • Tournament entry: $550 allocated per team for 2 tourneys • $55 per player • Uniforms: $78 per player • League fee: $450 per team • $40 per player • Equipment: $2500 for 100 Travel players • $25 per player • Umpires: $2000 per 100 travel players • $20 per player • Field prep: $10 per player • $228 per player in direct fees • Indirect Fees • Insurance, website, gym time, flyers, etc. • Bottom line: we lose $$ for each travel player

  13. Costs • Registration fee • Tryout fee ($20) • Open gym ($5) • Gate fee to qual / state • $10 per player each (not included in registration) • This pays your admission to both

Volunteer Hours • Requirements • 6 hours for 1 player • 10 hours for families with multiple players • Opportunities • Bar Bingo – we get portion of proceedsTuesdays • Open Gym help • Free hitting help • Equipment clean up and storage • Coaching! • Teams assigned 12 hours per team • Be on the board!

  17. Fall Ball • 6 Sunday afternoon doubleheaders starting in late August • Teams formed informally • Coaches call players • Teams are not formed by the Association • No home games • 4 “league” games • State Qual • State Tourney
