  2. ASC X12: Mission Chartered by ANSI in 1979 to develop uniform standards for inter-industry electronic interchange of business transactions - EDI. ASC X12 develops, maintains, interprets, publishes and promotes the proper use of American National & UN/EDIFACT International Electronic Data Interchange standards.

  3. Key Initiatives for X12 in 2000 • Accelerate the X12 process • Expand the scope of EDI • Collaborate to build integrated global solutions

  4. Accelerate in 2000 Accelerate X12 development while retaining neutral, open, cross-industry consensus • Formed Process Improvement Group (PIG) • More effective X12 meetings & procedures • Expedited X12 code addition process • Use of Electronic balloting and DM submissions • Initiated X12 Web Master Team • Modifying electronic distribution & licensing of X12 publications

Expand in 2000 Expand EDI’s definition to incorporate: • Standardized business processes • Formed Process Integration Task Group • X12 J adding Process Analysis Task Group • Enhanced electronic exchange approaches • Coordinating X12 & XML development • XML Task Group recommending approach to XML for X12 Committee • Joint efforts such as HIPAA MOU

Collaborate in 2000 Collaborate with complementary standards initiatives to build global solutions • Actively participate in ebXML • Consider appointing X12 experts to ebXML • Incorporate ebXML framework into X12 XML work • Opportunity to create Core Components with EDIFACT Working Group (EWG) may offer common global building blocks
