  1. November 8, 2013 • “Blue Folder” system for turning things in • B8 @ home: Memorial Portrait • Brainstorm as a group • Thumbnail/Notes Worksheet • Due WEDNESDAY 11/13 • Proof of Progress FRIDAY 11/15

  2. Blue Folders • When you want to turn something in, you MUST put it in your blue folder and bring it up to my desk. • ANYTHING you need me to see and/or grade should be IN FRONT of the yellow paper inside the blue folder • Put it under the “late work” box

  3. Once it’s graded All the work you’ve submitted IN BACK of the yellow paper inside & put it back in your cabinet • You can then get out any unfinished worked to complete it before the next due date.

  4. The Blue Folder never goes home • Finished work STAYS in that blue folder. This is where we will keep your work safe. Don’t bring things home that you aren’t working on. • Take care when going through each other’s folders to find your own. There is valuable stuff in there. • You can document your work at any time. This is a requirement for all finished work and will be a grade at the end of the semesters.

  5. Breadth 8 @ home:Who Should Be Famous? • Inspired by Jason Pallas’s • Memorial Prints • Memorializing people who do amazing things but don’t really get enough press for it • Are mostly unknown to the greater world • Watch his interview! http://www.youtube.com/embed/7m7BpCCCBMY

  11. Soooo…who do YOU want to “MEMORIALIZE?” • Ms. King’s initial thoughts for you: • Minimum: Create a portrait of someone that you believe should be famous for what they do or did. • Consider school, home, work. You no doubt have a few amazing people in your life…. • More: Decide upon a meaningful surface to draw or paint on • test, homework, poster, note, printed email, printed texts, letter, bill, greeting card, book page, sticker, wall, magazine page, receipt, menu • Even more: Develop a technique (ex: stamping) to create the portrait. • The technique could relate to the person somehow. • Think about size of your artwork and how it would be displayed.

  12. Other Responses/Questions from Students (for Jason, too):

  13. Now: Brainstorm Session w/ Worksheet DUE WED 11/13 • Make a short list of possible people you’d like to memorialize • Do you need to do a bit of research? Bring in your research (information/drawings) for extra credit on this project. • Work on a thumbnail during class today • Include WRITTEN notes and ideas • Who will it be • What do you need to complete this work. What materials? • How will you proceed? • Why did you choose this person? • Other Questions (and answers) you are asking yourself…

  14. New Incentive for OPEN STUDIO • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 3-6pm • Attend 3 sessions, get 30 extra participation points • Sign in • Stay for at least 1 hour • Be productive • Already applied to 2 students’ grades • Their grade went up 3%!!!! • Coffee and good conversation

  15. Confuscius said… “Every truth has four corners. As a teacher I give you one corner and it is for you to find the other three.”
