  • 10 PIDC members reported they believed people were smuggled into their country/territory

  • 6 PIDC members (Fiji, New Caledonia, Palau, PNG, Tonga and Vanuatu) believed those smuggled were being transited to another destination

  • 114 cases of people smuggling involving 209 smuggled people were detected

  • 41 of these detections involving 74 individuals were reported by Pacific Island members

  • The sentences ranged from a minimum of six and a maximum of 10 years imprisonment in Australia to 20 years imprisonment in Palau

  • False / altered supporting documents most frequently cited

  • 71 persons were convicted of immigration-related fraud in the region; 32 in Pacific Islands region
