  1. Training and qualifications If you think education is expensive, try ignorance!!!

  2. What we have been doing since last year? • Talking to as many stakeholders as possible to ensure the widest possible contribution to the process • Trying to get press coverage through key publications

  3. Who exactly has been asked for their views – and have offered them? US claims adjusters UK regional Marine market MIEC AAA City and Guilds AIMU LMBC LMA Specialist loss Adjusters and surveyors International Group Insurance Institute of America Individual Claims practitioners CEFOR CII Individual P & I Clubs IUMI International Underwriting Association

  4. What were their views • Definite need • Current offerings do not adequately serve the market (on a worldwide basis) • Suggested ingredients cover all the bases with two additions suggested • Separate elements for yachts, and goods in transit

  5. So where are we now? • AAA have reformatted their examinations to have two exams for the Associateship • Intent is to have first sitting in 2008 • CII have already indicated that one of the two current marine papers will be removed after 2008

  6. Current activity • Syllabi are being drafted for all modules • Discussions are in progress with City and Guilds to take on the governance and operational management of the qualification framework

  7. Next steps • Completion of discussions with a body to take on the governance and operation of the qualification • Finalisation of suggested syllabi • Marketing • Final point that can be achieved without investment and commitment

  8. So what next • Without buy-in and investment the project cannot go forward • Provisional indications of financial support have been forthcoming but more will be needed • As Benjamin Franklin once said “ An investment in knowledge pays the best interest”

  9. What do you need to do? • Identify sources of real tangible support from your market or employers • Get involved with syllabus review • Assist with ideas for marketing
