  2. Personal background • Dias was a cavalier of the Royal Court, Superintendent of the Royal warehouses and sailing master of the man-of-war San Christovao .

  3. Sponsor • Dias was sent on his dangerous expedition by the Portuguese.

  4. Death/Birth • Dias’s birth is unknown but is said to be sometime in 1450. Dias died at age 48 or 49 on May 29th 1500. It is said that his Ship • capsized in a storm on that day.

  5. Route • He left for he’s journey in early August or late July in 1487 from Lisbon. When he crossed the 29 latitude a very violent storm started that lasted for 13 days. He failed to reach India but did successfully go around the Southern Tip of Africa • In 1500 he went to trade in India but miscalculated the route and discovered Brazil

  6. Motives • Dias’s Motives were Religion,Glory and gold.

  7. ImpactHe failed to reach India but did successfully go around the Southern Tip of Africa. He got Back to libson in December 1488 In 1500, He was sent to trade in India. He miscalculated and ended up in Brazil instead. This was then claimed as Portuguese land. He also helped named Brazil
