Action plan Here’s how: • Identify key risks: SafeWork SA prosecutions/hazard alerts • Identify key expectations: index to WHS Act and Regulations • Equip yourself: • Resources: legislation.sa.gov.au; safework.sa.gov.au; safeworkaustralia.gov.au; aghealth.org.au • 3 types of expertise: legal, technical, business/farming • Manage key risks: ‘to do’ list

Action plan Resources: traffic management, machinery guarding, heights, moving objects, fatigue, inexperience, chemicals, licences, isolation, emergency management Expertise: farmer knows best , supplement with technical and legal support Lawyers: • Review WHS system/contracts: working with 3rd parties - allocation of risk • Dealing with SafeWork SA • Significant incident: legal professional privilege/supervising interviews • Prosecutions: guilty plea/defence • Record keeping advice: action items, incident reports/investigations

  9. ‘To do’ list • Take reasonably practical measures to manage reasonably foreseeable hazards: • identify hazards, • manage risk (hierarchy of control measures), • maintain WHS risk management system, • review system to ensure it works. • WHS on the agenda, in the budget, part of culture • Train ‘officers’: due diligence • Consult workers and third parties + :discharge duty “to the extent you have capacity to influence and control a matter” – co-ordinate and allocate responsibility • Document WHS activities (carefully)
