History of Site • 235 Acre Property • Located South-East of Lake Arrowhead • Late 1800s - Family farm and sawmill -Operation in 1885 • Henck Family 1918 • Santa Village Closed 1999 • Skyforest Company 2000 - Store logs (Bark Beetle Outbreak 2002) • SkyPark, Santa’s Village, LLC (2014) -Santa’s Village opening 2015

  6. The Old Fire of 2003 • High Intensity Fire • Burned over 91,000 Acres • Location: South side of Highway 18

  8. The Old Fire, started near Waterman Canyon Road and destroyed hundreds of homes. The Old Fire progressed rapidly forcing the evacuation of thousands

  9. SkyPark’s Forest Management Objectives • Purpose was to increase Forest’s defense against fire. • Maintain healthy forest • Recreational • Prevent high intensity fires • Planted about 435 seedlings per plot

  13. Forest Inventory Methodology • Plot Surveys -Entire Areas need to be surveyed -1/10 Acre Circular Plot • Radius of 37.2 Feet • Used lodging tape to measure area

  14. Analysis • 23 plots • 435 seedlings per acre • 31% mortality rate of artificial seedlings
