Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment. Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force. 5. Remove plug (9), O-ring seal (8), spring (7), and plunger (6). 6. If necessary, remove stud (10). Installation Procedure 1. Install engine oil filter base (3) in the reverse order of removal. a. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of stud (10). Apply Tooling (B) to a length of 20.0 ± 0.8 mm (0.79 ± 0.03 inch) on stud (10). b. Tighten stud (10) to a torque of 68 ± 7 N·m (50 ± 5 lb ft). Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury. 1. Drain the coolant. Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system. NOTICE Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns. Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the hose can come off causing burns. Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. 1. Remove gasket (10), water temperature regulator (9), and seal (8) from water temperature regulator housing (3). Installation Procedure Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
