  1. Where do we Draw the Line between ? “Enjoying Life” & “Worldliness” Ecclesiastes 9:7-9

  2. Where do we Draw the Line between being: ? Part of Society & Conformed to This World 1 Peter 2:11,12; 4:3,4; Romans 12:1,2

  3. What Does it Mean to be Conformed To This World? • Allurements of Human Society • People in Society Tend to Behave Alike • Centripetal Force in Society • Failure to Resist is to Fall into Line • We Do Not Resist These Forces at Every Point • How are we to Keep From Conforming? • Society Totally Separate from the Rest of the World?

  4. We Are Meant to Mingle in & Permeate Society • The Lord working as a carpenter, and mingling with sinners • Possibility of Him getting “lost in the crowd.” John 8:59 • Paul mingled with Jews in synagogue, and those who came to his tent shop. • The Lord’s Teaching: Matthew 5:13-16 “light of the world” • Matthew 13:33 “leaven” • Mark 16:15 “go in to all the world” • John 17:14,15 Not “take them out of the world”

  5. Society Descended into Sin • Society may not be sinful entirely – but as a whole, it is under control of the “wicked one” - 1 John 5:19; Ephesians 2:2,3 • “Sin” as in Romans Chapter 1: • “Religious sin” – only answer to self • “Sensual sin” – surrender to lusts & greed • “Social sin” – members of society mistreat each other • All have sinned – Romans 3:23

  6. We Must be a Part of Society At The Same Time “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness” that characterize it - Ephesians 5:11

  7. The Challenge For Us: • Be Like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach & Abed Nego – Resist steadfastly • Being very sensitive to those points where we “cross the line” • Corinth- Pagan Festivals – 1 Corinthians Chapter 8 • Pergamos – Nicolaitans – Revelation 2:14,15 • Thyatira – Jezebel – Revelation 2:20 • Romans 12:2 “not conformed” • Galatians 5:19-23; Ephesians 4:22-24

  8. Challenge & Transform the World • Cause it to conform to us, rather than the other way around • Matthew 13:33 – leaven • 1 Thessalonians 1:6 “followers of us and of the Lord” • Ephesians 5:11 – Actively challenging it

  9. Is there some way you have crossed that line? Part of Society to Conformed to This World
