  21. Job Related Injuries and Lost TimeFrom New Claims from 07/01/2015 to 06/30/2016 Identifying Who Was Injured and How! Presented By: Brett Beoubay, Loss Prevention Manager James F. Broussard, Loss Prevention Supervisor Office of Risk Management

  22. Between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016 There were a total of 2,428 New Claims for Job Related Injuries In that time Louisiana State workers lost 49,639 days away from work. While it is important to keep in mind the millions of dollars we pay out for these injuries, it is even more important to know how to prevent them.

  23. Total Days Lost From 07/01/2015 to 06/30/2016 49,639 • When a worker, “Over Does It,” that means the worker exceeded his or her physical limits resulting in an injury and days away from work.

  24. Total Days Lost From 07/01/2015 to 06/30/2016 49,639 • Lifting - Do you know how to lift safely? There is more to it than just bending your knees. • Muscle Strain – This is usually caused by insufficient muscle resting time. • Pushing or Pulling - The odds are the worker pulled when he should have pushed. Unless the spine is kept the correct orientation (Lordosis) pulling will result in an injury. Whenever possible push the object. • Bending and Twisting - Even if all you are picking up is a paperclip, if you bend your body out of position you will be injured. Move your feet, do not twist your body.

  25. Total Days Lost From 07/01/2015 to 06/30/2016 49,639 Any of you who enjoy racing know that racers are constantly checking ahead, their periphery and even behind. They are fully aware of their surroundings.

  26. Total Days Lost From 07/01/2015 to 06/30/2016 49,639 • When it comes to falls we all know that it is not how far you fall that hurts, it’s that sudden STOP at the bottom! • Focus on your footing and use handrails.

  27. Immediately Cover Sharps! What could needles have in them that makes them so dangerous? • Eye Protection is cheap and available almost everywhere. The next foreign body in your eye could mean the loss of that eye.

  28. Okay Then, Who Got Hurt? Occupations, Not Names
