  1. My Projects Usage: All RCA members who are active members in projects. Could also be used by non-RCA members if they are part of any projects. Description: The ‘My Projects’ interface gives a list of the projects the user is involved in. This functions as a shortcut to the user’s projects. In the lower part a list of recent activities across all of the user’s projects is display giving the user a real-time sense of the activities within his projects. Technology: The Ning platform hosts projects at the RCA. A list of the user’s projects needs to be compiled as well as a list of recent activities across his projects. This list can be fed via rss. Ning does not use the Directory for user authentication. This may be a problem as the user needs to be logged in for his list to be retrieved.   2. RCA Projects Usage: All RCA members who are active members in projects. Could also be used by non-RCA members if they are part of any projects. Description: The ‘RCA Projects’ interface gives a list of all the projects currently run at the RCA. This functions as a display of activities across the disciplines. Only those projects with the most recent activity are shown making that list change it’s appearance/order. Access to all projects is provided through a link at the bottom, where the project headers (abstracts) can be read. Technology: The Ning platform hosts projects at the RCA. A simple RSS feed should be sufficient that delivers all projects with the RCA namespace.   3. E-mail Usage: All RCA members. Description: The ‘E-mail’ interface gives a list of the most recent unread emails in the users inbox. This keeps the user informed about new mail items. Technology: It is as if File2 was run through a web-based application.   5. RCA Notice Board Usage: All RCA members, but could be used publicly. Description: The ‘RCA Notice Board’ interface shows the latest posts on the notice board(s). Technology: The boards are hosted on RCADE at the moment from which an RSS feed could be used. The boards may need to be consolidated into a single board, or multiple feeds can feed into this interface. User needs not to be logged into RCADE since RSS feeds are public.   6. Repository Usage: Could be used publicly (apart from the ‘Submit Article’ option) Description: The ‘Repository’ interface shows the latest articles submitted to the repository. Technology: A repository software needs to be purchased from which a public RSS feed can be taken.   7. Blogs Usage: Could be used publicly. Description: The ‘Blogs’ interface showsa list of blogs I am interested in plus the 3 latest posts in that blog. Technology: Links in with blogs in Ning for example for RCA blogs, but can use any RSS feed from any blog.   8. My Bookmarks Usage: All RCA members, but could be used publicly. Description: The ‘Bookmarks’ interface displays a user’s bookmarks. Ideally a drop-down box lets the user filter the bookmarks by one of his tags. Technology: RSS feed from a delicious account could be used - this would also make the collection of bookmarks very easy because delicious is integrated into the browser.   9. Links Usage: All RCA members. Description: The ‘Links’ interface displays the basic RCA links every RCA member will need from time to time. Technology: This is just a list of hard coded URLs (which could come via RSS though, to make updating easy?)   11. VTC Usage: Restricted to current RCA members (staff and students). Description: The ‘VTC interface displays a list of the user’s courses on VTC and a list of new course material. The top list functions as shortcut to the user’s courses, while the bottom list keeps the user updated with new resources as they come in. Technology: We are subscribing to VTC. However, there is a single login, which doesn’t identify individual users making it difficult at the moment to compile a my-courses-list. For VTC to work user must be logged into the intranet.   12. My RCADE Usage: Restricted to current RCA members (staff and students). Description: The ‘My RCADE interface displays a user’s courses on RCADE as they would appear on his my-page. At the bottom a list of the most recent activities across the user’s courses would be given updating the user on changes to the course. Technology: RCADE needs to run in the background into which the user needs to be logged in. There is no feed as yet for either courses or activities.   13. Calendar Usage: All RCA members. Description: The ‘Calendar’ interface displays a user’s calendar. This should be integrated with an RCA wide calendar showing general dates this could also be used for group (I.e. project) dates, so that the calendar could also feature directly within the project pages.
