  1. What is an “Audience?” • A target group that a media company or group may direct their thoughts to. • Does everyone fit into what would be typical of a media audience? • Generally, yes. But as times change and opinions differ it because difficult. • What happens when a specific group does not fit or chooses not to fit into a media audience? • Leaders choose different tactics where the picking up logic and gaining skills is stressed. This is usually tested and done with projects. 2. The Science and Leadership Academy is a school that thrives on their different education system. • SLA works in a project based curriculum. • A lot of emphasis on the teachers teaching the students rather than lecturing. 3. During my observation at my field site I noticed many things that are similar to this reading. • Project based learning • Chooses to be different than other schools • Admission into the school supports a successful twist on the normal education system Youth Media And Media Literacy Field Experience Linda Suh Imagining the Audience: Language, Creativity and Communication In Youth Media Production By David Buckingham &Issy Harvey

  4. After all projects Diana mentioned to me that all students after a major assignment reflect on the work they have done. • Strengths, weaknesses, and personal critiques. • Buckingham and Harvey state that simulation is an ideal method in teaching. And when you simulate project based learning it also opens the door to reflect on what they did during the production process which the kids did at SLA. 5. Other methods that make Diana’s teachings so strong are what we went over in the reading. For example: When students are assigned to produce something they learn for their peers, they take in the production process and possible consequences in a different light. Which could be a new way of learning. Also, showing them a new perspective with critiques. 6. This reminded me of the current project Diana is working on. • In the US History class, students are currently working on a project to increase voter turnout. • Students must create 2 written components along with a graphic and media component. • When all of the assignments are due, the class and I will critique the work with warm and cold feedback. 7. With this stated, students will already have the audience in mind. They all have an equal understanding that this is meant for their peers and other observers. Which ideally would help motivate these students because the audience is defined.
