  3. Importing Mesh Data from Other System • STAR-CD can use mesh files generated by other CAD/CAE softwares. • Acceptable CAD/CAE files: • SAMM • ICEM CFD • IDEAS • ANSYS • PATRAN • NASTRAN • PLOT3D

  4. How to import mesh files in STAR-CD • Using the “Import Grids” STAR GUIde panel. • Surface data are imported using the “Import CAD/Surface Information”

  5. Exporting Mesh Data • Prostar can export mesh data to other CAD/CAE. • Types of Prostar provides: • ANSYS • PATRAN • NASTRAN • IDEAS • ENSIGHT • FIELDVIEW

  6. How to export mesh data in Prostar • Using the “Export Grids” STAR GUIde panel.

  7. Mesh Connectivities • When we use multi-block method to construct mesh, there are connection problems appearing between blocks. • Regular connectivity • Integral connectivity • Arbitrary connectivity

  8. Regular Connectivity • Discontinuities must be removed by merging coincident vertices at the interfaces between adjacent blocks. • One-to-one connection.

  9. Couple Generation • Tools>Couple Tool • Manually - only to integral couples • Automatically – to integral matching or arbitrary matching

  24. Homework 3 • Purpose: Practice the usages of block and couple. • Design a 3-D irregular block and mesh the block. An orthogonaliser must be used for the block. • Design a case which includes two cylindrical blocks to use integral couple. • Design a case, which includes two cylindrical blocks perpendicular to each other, to use arbitrary couple. • Due date: 24 April, 2006.
