  3. Getting Started…

  4. Set up your account • Go to http://twitter.com and find the sign up box. • Enter your name, your email address, and a password. • On the next page, select a username – type your own or choose the one we've suggested. • Click Create my account. 

  5. Tips for picking a username • Your username or “handle” is the name your followers use when sending @replies, mentions, and direct messages. • @aliciakanderson • @suzspear • @gregt12 • @Sage_Summit • It will also form the URL of your Twitter profile page. • Fewer than 15 characters in length.

  6. MOST IMPORTANT: follow @Sage_Summit and @blythecollc! • After signing up, follow a handful of accounts to create a customized stream of information on your homepage.  • Following means you'll get that user's Tweets on your Twitter homepage • You can unfollow anyone later on.  • Read the Twitter 101 article here, which offers details into how to begin getting the most out of Twitter. • Take the Twitter Tour to find out where things are on the website.  

  7. Twitter on your phone/tablet • Go to http://www.twitter.com/download/iphone and follow the instructions on that page. • From Google Play (just search for Twitter) or https://twitter.com/download/android • Once the app is installed on your Phone/tablet, you can sign in with an existing account. • Easy to share photos/Instagram

  8. Twitter Etiquette • It’s a cocktail party • Listen first, then engage • Don’t follow more than 3X the number of your followers • HAVE FUN!

  9. 140 Characters • It’s best to use only 120 so people can retweetyour message easily • Here’s a great example of a 120 character tweet: • I'm headed to the Sage City Accounting Village at #SageSummit! Who's joining me? Can't wait to meet with my peers!

  10. Hashtags (#) • Used to organize posts & index content • Events - #SageSummit, #wimbledon • Topics - #blyDea, #nascar, #leadership, #allthesocialladies • Here’s an example: • #SageSummit is about to kick-off, I’m excited to share some best practices with my peers!

  12. Good tweeting • Use the hashtag or invent one! • Keep it short, be funny and have fun! • Perfect the tweet • Less than 140 characters • Link to content with value • Allow space for retweets • Holla at your Tweeps
