Mortgaging Our Future Update • Key Findings • America’s competitiveness depends on increasing bachelor’s degree attainment of college-qualified high school graduates. • Financial barriers in the form of high net prices at 4-year public colleges likely prevent millions of low- and moderate-income, college-qualified high school graduates each decade from earning a bachelor's degree. • A shift in enrollment patterns away from 4-year colleges between 1992 and 2004 is now apparent and is most striking among college-qualified high school graduates from low-income families.
