  1. Florida’s Drug Laws — Lessons from the Liv Morgan Case

  2. WWE star Liv Morgan’s (known offstage as Gionna Daddio) arrest on December 14 has brought everyone’s attention to Florida’s complex drug laws. Her arrest for drug-related charges in Bushnell, about 45 miles west of Orlando, has sparked widespread discussion and raised questions about the state’s stance on marijuana. Arrest reports show that the arresting deputy found Morgan with a vape pen and some marijuana during a traffic stop. The deputy smelled marijuana, searched the car, and found a green leafy substance and a THC pen. Authorities then booked Morgan for possessing a synthetic cannabinoid, a third-degree felony, and a misdemeanor for having a small amount of marijuana. She was later released after posting a $3,000 bond.

  3. Florida’s marijuana laws are not as simple as you think. The Liv Morgan case stresses how contradictory Florida’s marijuana laws are. “But isn’t marijuana illegal in Florida?” There’s no simple yes or no answer to this question. In 2016, Florida voters approved a constitutional amendment legalizing medical marijuana with over 70% support. This allows residents diagnosed with conditions like cancer or epilepsy to use medical marijuana legally. But recreational marijuana use remains illegal under state law, and getting caught with even a small amount can land you in trouble.

  4. For example, 20 grams or less could lead to a misdemeanor, which could mean up to a $1,000 fine or a year in jail. However, possessing a vape pen with marijuana oils can be charged as a felony under Florida’s synthetic marijuana law and lead to up to 5 years in prison. 5. You need a qualified lawyer when facing drug charges Facing a drug charge in Florida can be a horrifying experience. The laws are tough to understand, and the harsh impact of a drug conviction can change your life and career for the worse. This is why you need a legal expert by your side. A good drug crime lawyer knows Florida’s drug laws and how they apply to individual cases. They can devise the best defense strategies to protect your rights and get you the best possible outcome.

  6. Your lawyer examines your case from different angles. They look closely at your arrest details, the legality of the search and seizure, and the specific drug involved. Your lawyer will then consider possible defenses, like challenging the traffic stop’s validity or the search that found the drugs. If they find anything suspicious, such as evidence obtained illegally, they will fight to dismiss it.
