Aim: • To share practical experience and learning from a number of community needs assessment projects undertaken locally; using a participatory approach.
ScenarioBackground • South Asians have a higher relative risk of CVD • Tackling risk factors in the general population is up to 3 times more effective in preventing deaths than concentrating on people with established heart disease. • Physical Activity levels are lower among South Asian communities then the general population.
Task • Develop a needs assessment framework to ascertain views of the South Asian community around physical activity; with a view to developing appropriate responses to increase physical activity levels.
Task Describe the approach to be taken, specifically in relation to: • Which HNA tool & why. • What specific issues would you take into consideration. • Identify key barriers and how you would seek to over come them.
